We are in our mid 70's and are looking for areas to live around Wilmington area. We have checked all the retirement communities: Brunswick Fores, Waterford, Magnolia Green, Mallory Creek, etc.
What we are finding are younger families everywhere. Are there areas where we can find friends our own age group. We feel moving into one of the younger areas, the neighbors really would not like it. Any input?

How far from (or close to) Wilmington do you want to be?

We've considered Wilmington and as far south as Ocean Isle Beach. Thanks

You might want to look at St. James, River's Edge and Ocean Ridge if you want a "planned" development. You might also want to look at Southport if you're interested in a real community. Lots of retirees there.

I'd also say your fears of your younger neighbors not liking your presence are overblown. Now, if you want to live around mostly people your own age for social reasons, I get it, but I wouldn't worry about upsetting other demographic groups.
