A quantity of threads specific to Wilmington exist in the "Coastal North Carolina" forum. As the "Coastal North Carolina" forum is broad in coverage with Goldsboro, Greenville, Jacksonville, and the Outer Banks, should threads relevant to Wilmington spin off into a Wilmington sub-forum of the "North Carolina" forum?

Clear that it would include Brunswick cty, but not Horry cty, SC. What about the northern and eastern limits?

I don't think Wilmington is large enough for its own subforum. If Fayetteville isn't getting its own, Wilmington probably isn't getting its own subforum.

What I wouldn't mind seeing is a "Southeastern NC" subforum that would hold threads for Fayetteville, Wilmington, Jacksonville, etc. and an "Eastern NC" forum that covers Greenville, New Bern, Nags Head, etc.

"When are new local sub-forums added?"

Quote:
A: New sub-forums are added when there are enough threads about the area. This decision is not based on the population of the area. We prefer not to add sub-forums for large geographical areas. Adding a local sub-forum requires moving all previous threads related to the area into the new sub-forum, so it's not a very quick procedure.
New Hanover County, where Wilmington is the county seat, should be covered by a prospective Wilmington sub-forum.

Brunswick County and its localities have approximately half the number of threads Wilmington alone has.

There are approximately 465 threads relevant to Brunswick County and its localities in the "Coastal North Carolina" sub-forum:
  • Southport: 116
  • Leland: 70
  • Brunswick County: 59
  • Oak Island: 51
  • Sunset Beach: 43
  • Shallotte: 38
  • St. James: 32
  • Ocean Isle Beach: 21
  • Holden Beach: 18
  • Bolivia: 10
  • Carolina Shores: 7
Brunswick County could be spun off into another sub-forum as either "Brunswick County" or "Wilmington, North Carolina, Area."

"Southeastern North Carolina" and "Eastern North Carolina' sub-fora would cover large geographical areas. City-Data prefers not to create sub-forums for large geographical areas.

Well, the "Coastal North Carolina" sub-forum already covers a huge geographical area. Just taking it literally, Nags Head is a very very very long way from Oak Island, but both are still coastal NC communities. I just don't know if Wilmington has "enough" threads about it to justify its own sub-forum. Just my opinion.

I don't think so on Wilmington having a new forum, but I do think Fayetteville and the Sandhills should have its own sub-forum. I think Coastal covers Wilmington fine. People don't know where to put Fayetteville threads, though, and sometimes they show up in the broader NC forum, but once in awhile they'll show up in the Triangle forum or the Coastal forum.

There are approximately 999 threads in the "Coastal North Carolina" sub-forum and 44 threads in the "North Carolina" forum specific to Wilmington. Having over 1,000 threads could justify support for a sub-forum.

Ok. Guess you just have to send the message to someone higher up if you think you've already got a case for it. I don't think it changes much in the long run to be honest.
