On 21 August at around 2 in the after noon, the southern cost of NC will experience about a 97% eclipse of the sun. If you travel about 2 hours further south, down around Pawleys Island in SC, it becomes a total eclipse. Of course this event travels all the way across the US, through Washington state.

Hopefully it will not be raining or overcast.

We were going to go to Murphy NC but an aweful long way for 2 1/2 minutes. So we are now thinking South Carolina, Probably Santee or Manning. Drive down, watch it, grab a bite to eat then drive home.

I think the very coolest place to see it is in that old park in Charleston SC.

I was gonna start a new thread asking this question and I'm sure as the date approaches, it'll be easier - but WHERE can I find / get / buy those certified safety glasses to watch the eclipse? They have to meet some kind of special approval and what a total disaster if you got stuck with some cheap un-safe knock-off and went blind as a result.

Anyway, I'm planning on making the drive from Wrightsville down to SC for the total show. There are some places online that are giving away the glasses but surely you can (or will be able to) but them at places around here? Walmart maybe?

Yeah, I know you can get the online but that won't work for me. That's why I posted my original Q. If anyone decides to buy a bunch of them - (they are really cheap and the more you get the cheaper they are) - let me know as I just need 1 pair. There will prolly be thousands of them for sale at the locations of the total eclipse path, but it would suck to get down there and have guessed wrong about that.

Thx

I'm still looking for a place around here that has them - if anyone has ideas. Of course none of the libraries around here have them - even the ones in Raleigh. Lame.
