I haven't been to White Lake since the 70's. The lake and shore are very picturesque and swimming was great. I would like opinions about visiting for a day trip from Raleigh. Are there public bath houses/changing facilities, restaurants, or overnight recommendations from anyone who has been recently?

haha weird this is actually where i am from originally.

I can only so-so recommend a day trip I could recommend it for a weekend visit. If you've been there in the 80's 70's it's sort of a residental lake now Goldston's is there but it's basically running of fumes. If I was day tripping I might be more interesting in spending a day at jones lake state park since you can swim/hike/ rent a canoe maybe eating a hamburger at melvins.

If you were just day tripping without a boat you would essentially be stuck on Goldstons beach and if it's busy it's not even my idea of fun.

I could recommend langstons, lasleys I think, melwood court for places to stay. White Lake motel I think it's called near the scotchman on 701 has a nice beach.

Amusements and rides there still should be something during the weekends now since it's summer.

The water isn't much clear these days due to algae.

Most the time you will go to elizabethtown for food and major grocery there are a few ok restaurants there and options. All the locals would eat at an italian restaurant called georgios. There is a newer place called cape fear winery i think is pretty popular.

If you have kids it's still nice to swim in and most the motels should have private sandy beaches so I think there can be fun time to be had.

Not being at the beach nor on a major interstate there isn't much action out that way and I can't really call accomodations sophisticated or modern but if you're in the right frame of mind I totally think a good experience can be had.

Again, rent a motel with a beach access, go check out goldstons play some putt putt, go see jones lake, just sit on the beach let kids splash. If you don't have kids I don't see much of a point especially with no boat.
