Vivian Howard to launch Wilmington pizzeria - News - Wilmington Star News - Wilmington, NC

This building is next to local hotspot, the Satellite and is a huge warehouse in a continuing re-development of this part of Front St. Other recent developments include the transformation of a former public housing complex into South Front Apartments, the location of The Harp restaurant and previously Linda Lavin's (Alice) rehab of about 12 houses along with establishing the Red Barn Studio.

Nice to see the Howard's move into expanding their efforts in eastern NC...would love to see the oyster bar mentioned come to Greenville's Dickinson Ave redeveloped corridor.

I am disappointed to hear of yet another pizza restaurant. I would think a high-end Farm to Table restaurant would be a hit in Wilmington.

Believe it or not, I think there is much less good pizza in Wilmington than good farm to table.

Did their place in Kinston get flooded? Could this be an exit strategy?

I don't think The Chef and Farmer and Boiler Room Oyster Bar were damaged in the flood, although obviously their business took a hit as a result of the flood.

In an October article in the Wilmington Star News, Howard said "... the decision (to open a Wilmington restaurant) would not mean leaving Kinston."

More info as to WHY Howard is opening in Wilmington.

More commercial space, new apartments continue South Front revitalization | WilmingtonBiz

54 Apts in addition to South Front. A new Bakery/Coffee Shop, two other new restaurants.

Howard is obviously trying to be part of this re-development, which IMO will spread. It is bordered on one side by Greenfield Lake, where the Amphitheater has turned into a success and on the other side by the Memorial Bridge and Historic District. There were a lot of significant projects proposed at the foot of the Memorial Bridge before 2008 and they are likely coming back in the long run. My prediction is that this will be the area where there is finally a Riverfront ballpark built for the minor league baseball team...and it will end up being a public-private venture, not just public, which the voters turned down on the north end.

All of the properties from 3rd St to the River are ripe for redevelopment to the Front/Carolina Beach Rd intersection.

Default Restaurants?

How will the GenX situation impact these restaurants? Will they provide bottled water for drinking. It very sad. We have decided to avoid Wilmington which in the past has been a go to place.

This thread relates to one restaurant, which hasn't opened yet, so there is no impact on it. Its certainly your choice to not visit Wilmington, but that seems short-sighted to me, given how easy it is to avoid ingesting tap water. In addition, parts of Wilmington get their water from an underground aquifer, which is not contaminated.

Your right it may seem short sighted, but why take a chance. And yes some of the outlaying area have other water sources but the major portion of Wilmington still derives its drinking water from the Cape Fear River. Also for cooking and washing a seemingly catch22

Its a moot point for washing, GenX doesn't transmit through your skin.
