I have made it a goal to move from Ohio to the North Carolina area around this time next year. I was wondering if anyone could tell me about the Wilmington area? I will be moving with a 5 year old and our dog. I have heard that Wilminton is GREAT and that everyone is really friendly. I have also heard that the crime rate is ridiculously high. I have tried to research this, but everything I find is not current. We will be vacationing there a couple of times within the next year to get a feel for the area. How are the schools? Are there many job opportunities in the area? I currently have a job as a Payroll Administrator, but have also worked as a Dental Assistant (no certifications though&#128533, and have experience in the food industry as well. I will definately have a job before moving, but I am kind of nervous because I will be limited in hours by having to be home for my son. I know of a few companies that hire Administrative professionals to work from home, but that might be difficult to find. I have never tried. I have been obsessively looking at house on realtor.com to get a feel of what I can find in my price range. Any information about this area would be helpful. I am a single mom so I am trying to gather as many resources as I can to make this trasition as easy as possible. Many thanks!

I am seeing a lot in Wilmington, Leland, Castle Hayne, and Southport.

Lots of existing threads you should read through that will answer a lot of your questions and provide more information. The crime rate is skewed due to drunk tourists and immature college kids. There are good schools and bad schools. Job market is more service and tourism based.

Are you looking to buy or rent a house? I'd recommend renting at first. Whats your price range?
