I want to so get out of the Charlotte metro area. Any suggestions on some coastal or near the coast (20 or so miles max) that I could find an affordable apartment rental?

From what I keep hearing on this forum, it seems like you would have little trouble finding affordable near-coastal housing in NEW JERSEY

Some quick suggestions, as I don't know your price range or other wants/needs:

- Conway South Carolina (if you don't mind many students)
- Shallotte, NC
- Bolivia, NC
- Hampstead, NC
- Jacksonville, NC (if you can tolerate military noises)
- Morehead City/Newport/New Bern area
- Elizabeth City

A price range always helps get better answers. Also, you might consider mobile home and duplex rentals if you can do the maintenance, as they may be cheaper.

Define affordable and coastal? Do you want to be 20 minutes from the ocean, or 20 minutes from water of any kind? What other criteria do you have?
