I'm interested in land available overlooking the back sound in Harkers Island. Never been there, but went to ECU 20 years ago so spent time at Atlantic Beach and frequently vacation on the Outer Banks.

Interested in having access to water for our skiff and potentially having an offshore boat in the future. I like the water view that you get from a beachfront or soundfront home and DH likes boating. I feel like this is the best of both at a price that is affordable. How are the storms and flooding here compared to N Topsail, or other beachfront locations?

Thoughts on the island as a vacation home/retirement home?

Its pretty remote...the nearest grocery store is 30 minutes away in Beaufort. As long as you are ok with that, I'm sure you'd like it. I'm confused when you mention "beachfront"...there is no beachfront. Its behind the barrier islands so its surrounded by the sound. I wouldn't want to ride out a hurricane out there. Its also a pretty good ride to get to the ocean for offshore fishing.

Thanks! I really mean waterfront as opposed to beachfront. If I am going to have a boat and vacation home, I want to sit on my deck and look at the water. I don't want to look at other houses! Finding a place with a waterview and dock is so much more expensive in EI, Atlantic Beach, Topsail so I thought maybe this was too good to be true... Looking forward to checking it out there.

His area is really remot. I took my kids on an exploring trip down that way over Christmas break. It is a long way to anything. If you were ar ECU 20 years ago, you will be approaching 50 in a few years. You MUST consider health care when yo get up around that age. I hate it, and unpleasant to ponder, but I suggest you analyze that aspect when looking for a place to live.
Good luck.

Best Supermarket is on HI. Although more expensive than say Food Lion or Lowes Food they have everything including a hardware section.
I was born and raised on HI and lived there for 38 years of my life. I only left for career choice in Pharmaceuticals. My mom still lives there along with about 30 or so of my extended family.
