We are thinking about moving to Wilmington NC and found a cute home in the Silver Lake area. Can anyone provide information on the neighborhood as far as safety and upkeep of homes?

I think your best resource is to do a "drive around" with Google street view. I am seeing a modest neighborhood of older homes. I am seeing a few that could stand some better landscaping, but there are no major red flags. What were you expecting?

Regarding safety and crime, I recommend using spotcrime.com, and putting in the specific address.

I will modify my assesment after seeing some of the real estate for sale on Zillow. I'll say that the area around Silver Lake is improving. There are newer homes being built, and there are some nice renovations, with prices going upwards from the low $200's.

The location is convenient between the commercial strip along Carolina Beach Road, and the new development of RiverLights on River Road. I check crime reports, and there are some thefts and assaults along Carolina Beach Road, as you might expect.

If you have kids, please check the school ratings. They are not bad, but not the best in the city.

Silver Lake is very relaxed. Good people enjoying life at the coast. there is an excellent disc golf course and family park in there with a school as well. its an older neighborhood so a few homes could use a little love but way more are on point and looking good. It is definitely a more affordable area compared to others if that makes sense, but not SO affordable it has any bad elements!
