Long story short, I love Wilmington. I am looking for property in the city now. I have read up on some bike trails being built and some that are already built.

My favorite hobby is cycling. I'll do at least 20 miles a day on most days. I like long trails that are mostly paved and don't involve much road time (don't like dealing with cars). Are there good in-town areas where the cycling trails begin? Or certain intersections where it's easy to get on/off the trail?

My decision of where to buy will be heavily dependent on if I can basically open my front door and get on the trail as quickly as possible.

I am not an expert, but I would recommend centering your search around the River-to-sea Bikeway and the Cross City Trail. There is good housing above and below Oleander Drive.

Check the maps at this link: https://www.wilmingtonnc.gov/departm...n/parks/trails

To my knowledge, the main section of the Cross City Trail that will be built in the next few years is a section that links the Hospital to the new Pointe at Barclay complex and Cameron Art Museum. Its a DOT project down 17th St.

There was some talk about extending the section down Park near Audobon...which may have been City funds, but I am not sure where that stands. The City is also finishing the last piece of the trail under the drawbridge at Wrighstville Beach.

There are other sections that may be done privately as development occurs...there is talk of a large mixed use project near Mayfaire where the Cross City trail runs next to a stream.
