Hi Everyone,

What would be your choice of a coastal town, close to beach (within 10-15 minute drive) that has a variety of age ranges, stores, etc.

Thanks for your input.

Heather

It's been several years since we've visited, but we really enjoyed Southport (near Wilmington.) Our only issue was that in a major hurricane, the roads out would be flooded...

Swansboro, Cape Carteret, Morehead City, New Bern, Beaufort...Morehead City and New Bern are the biggest of the small towns...It just depends on what you are looking for: How about schools, crime rates, dining, what kind of shopping, traffic, noise, congestion, downtown, etc....? Each town sort of has its own niche...What you should list is the top 5 things your are looking for in a community, so we may have a better idea what town may best peek your curiosity....

New Hanover, Pender and Bruswick counties are all good places to look. Wilmington has a lot to offer including a University and many different age groups from college to retirement. Worth checking into. If you'd like, take a look at my website to search real estate in these areas. Cheers!

Hi,

We currently live in a town of approx 23,000 people. We like the size of our town, but also like the towns that border ours of about 4,000 people. We live 5 minutes from a state beach and our town has a town beach (we usually don't use the town beach)
We homeschool so schools aren't that big of a deal. I am looking to open a children's center like The Little Gym so a population of families would be important.

Hope this helps.

Heather

Smile Plenty of families in the area

I think you will find plenty of families in the area from Swansboro through Morehead City.

Our own subdivision has seen a big jump in kids with families over the last two years. When we first moved in there were only a couple of kids, now there are over a dozen.

I even heard the ice cream truck the other day so that's always a good sign of kids.

The area doesn't have any large cities, but we do well in the 4,000 and under range, plus it only takes twenty minutes to get from Swansboro to Morehead City so the whole area is easily accessible.

Check out my map of the area to see a few of the services and read the post I did on the small town feel of the area.
