You might like the area in and around Clayton. Tons of period houses in the town, lots of interesting rural land outside of town, and a fairly large medical center that is part of the UNC system. Johnston UNC Health Care. The area is not as trendy as the towns with the high tech jobs, which is all the better for maintaining some affordability. I have been to Kennett Square and the little towns in your area of PA and think that you might like Clayton since there are some similarities.

Thank you so much! I still have Kennett listed but had to move from there 1.5 years ago - Miss it SO MUCH! It became very "yuppied out," as I call it, though still beautiful. I used to hang out with the old, retired farmers every morning at 6:00 a.m. over coffee and loved hearing their stories. They sort of "adopted" me
A good health center is HIGHLY important to me. Had one experience in a backwards, local place and signed myself out - NEVER AGAIN. UNC sounds like a reputable place. Thanks again!

The biggest disadvatage of the coast for us is the limited health care. Our town has only a clinic staffed by Physician Assistants. I am frequently driving into Wilmington to see specialists.

Yeah...that's not good. But I thought I saw that the UNC system has many throughout the state - just not on the coast, I guess. I suppose I should consider moving further inland (west of I95?). A drive to the beach would be great...but it's not essential whereas a reputable hospital will be. OH...if only I had a magic wand. NOT looking forward to moving again, but still in the very beginning of the investigative process.
If I have the funds, I'd like to fly down there over the summer and look around (somewhere). Air flight is soooo expensive, and I'll have to have a dog-sitter in...we'll see.

Goldenage, what about the E. Carolina U (Greenville) area? Leaned from another poster (poppydog) that the hospital there is cutting aged and looked them up. Don't they have member physician practices in the area?

I agree with poppydog that Greenville has the best healthcare in eastern NC and Vidant Medical Center is also the only Level 1 Trauma Center east of I-95. That's not to say that there aren't any other good hospitals in eastern NC, but it's the best one and the most capable.
One of Greenville's biggest drawbacks is it has terrible traffic, but there are a few construction projects currently underway and more planned that should help alleviate it. Greenville has grown much faster than it's infrastructure could keep up. Up until recent years, it was sorely neglected.
Please be aware the eastern North Carolina is not paradise. The properties may be cheap because of the smells from commercial hog farms and beef feedlots.
I am sure there are some veterinarians because the local military folks love their dogs. There are many other small towns located a hour from the ocean. Good Luck.
i dont think this is really a valid thing to say. Yes there is such farming but to carte blanche say it impacts the entire region is unreasonable. If you aren't literally beside such a farm i wouldnt worry about say smelling it or something
There are lots of modern vets servicing all the towns I wouldnt be concerned about finding the care you need.
I would say new bern morehead city jacksonville could all service your needs. Greenville and surrounding suburbs. Wilmington but a little further out for your price point. I think Whiteville NC could be an option.
