Can anyone tell me what the neighborhoods are like around Chestnut and Grace Street? Is this a good, safe, walkable neighborhood?

It might be wise to let everyone know what city you are inquiring about.

I assume you are referring to Wilmington? Can you be more specific about the exact location? Chestnut Street runs for 30 blocks.

If you are referring to the immediate downtown area, I'd stick to the area out to about 7th Street. After that it becomes somewhat transitional.

Yes Wilmington. Both in the vicinity of McRae Street.

McRae is the next street out from 7th. Its probably ok, but I'd visit it multiple times at various times of the day and night to get a feel for things. Personally, I'd feel better closer in to downtown a couple of blocks.
