My family and I are looking at possibly taking a trip to the Outer Banks in late July or early August. We are not accustomed to dealing with bugs, especially mosquitoes. Therefore, I am wondering if there are any areas in the Outer Banks where mosquitoes are less of an issue than they would be in other areas. Two of the towns we have been considering are Duck and Nags Head.
Also, is there spraying for mosquitoes in the Outer Banks? If so, how often is the spraying done, and at what time of day is it done? Does the agency which does the mosquito spraying alert people prior to spraying?
Finally, for those of you who live in the Outer Banks, how does this year compare to other years in terms of mosquito activity? Any responses would be greatly appreciated!
We had a place in Pirates Cove (across sound from Nags Head) and they sprayed the community. They did let us know when the spraying was planned, very dependent on weather and was done very early in AM, 0500 or so.
Spent a lot of time in Nags Head, on the beaches and otherwise. Not sure if they sprayed but I never found the mosquitos to be too bad. Go mini golfing around 1900 and yes, you will be eaten most nights. Use common sense and spray with deet.
Now the biting flies are a whole ‘nother story...
Certainly not worthy of stopping me from visiting imho.
