Our house is going on the market in a few weeks, and we'll be looking to get a long-term rental (6 months to a year lease) in the Wilmington area while we look for a house to buy. It would be myself, husband (both retired) and our sweet 11 year old, very mellow, lab-mix poopsie. We would prefer a house, but a condo/townhouse would also work.

Besides looking at MLS and craigslist, are there any other ways to look for a rental? Is there any local newspapers that also list long-term rentals? We'd like to keep it around $1,500/month if possible.

TY!

The Military-by-owner site will have a few. The URL is www.militarybyowner.com You do not have to be military to use it. Just specify that you want to rent a place new Camp Lejeune. Military owners tend to be dog-friendly and flexible.

BTW, $1500 per month seems very low for a 6-month rental, but you may get lucky.

When you say Wilmington area, what do you mean exactly. Jacksonville is a long way from Wilmington, for example.

If you're interested in the Southport/Oak Island area, you can look in the Southport newspaper (State Port Pilot), look at real estate companies websites (especially Margaret Rudd Realty and Southport Realty) and the website Nextdoor.com. Real estate companies and Nextdoor are useful for other areas as well.

We prefer Wilmington, but we're definitely open to Southport/Oak Island up to Wilmington and then out as far as Surf City.

If you simply do a web search for "rental management companies, wilmington, nc" you'll find lots of companies with websites of houses for rent, including Sweyer and others like this:
