I am heading with my wife to ocracoke friday-sunday the weekend of may 20th and have been looking at things to do. We will not arrive til friday night so I figured that would be a night of going to dinner and any of the local bars. Any recommendations for what to do on saturday? Id like to surf fish but have never fished in ocracoke and the price of a charter/guide might be too much. thanks!

Charters are expensive but perhaps there is a party boat you can participate in. Also check into Frisco - the Fire Dept used to sponsor a Fish Fry (Friday maybe) that is cheap and great tasting. You can go over on the free ferry - eat and look around then go back.

Are you taking the Swan Quarter or Cedar Island ferry over? They are great and our much preferred way to go, but do make reservations in advance.

Ocracoke is all about taking it easy and slowing down. You can surf fish. Make sure you have a license. If you've got FWD you can take your vehicle on some of the beaches. Lots of folks fishing there.

Nice beaches to swim at. We like to go to Springer's Point to hike and swim. Lots of nice shops. It's just a really chill time. You can rent bikes and ride around the island or rent kayaks and paddle in the sound.

The lighthouse is cool to see, it's different than all the other OBX lights and won't take a much time to see. Silver Lake is lined with restaurants, shops and bars and is a neat place to grab something to eat on the water. Howard's Pub is a big attraction as well. As has been said, Ocracoke is all about slowing down and relaxing. Check out whatever beach you can get yourself out onto, some of the nicest the state has to offer!
