What on earth makes that neighborhood an attractive shortcut? I’ve never been to Surf City but ooking at a map it seems like it would take more time and distance to go through there rather than just staying on highway 210.

People are using it to avoid the stretch of 210 where Walmart, Food Lion, etc, are. That traffic light and the one in front of Food Lion are the only lights between that intersection and the bridge, so it’s not worth the $5, IMO. We’ve been to Surf City a couple of times when I was a kid during our 2-year stint in Warsaw in the late 90’s and we always stayed on 210.

I haven't been to Surf City in years. Loved it and still have the refrigerator magnet from there. I was living in Kinston at the time but I can't remember what road we took; Hwy 70 maybe?
