Every couple of months we get a new thread (started usually by a grad student or young professionals) about renting in the good and safe area of Greenville, which we all agree is the Bells Fork area (for renting - owning is a whole different discussion). I'm in that area daily and am very familiar with it, so I've compiled a list of rentals for the general Bells Fork area. I figure any time there is a new thread asking for this info we can just easily direct them to this thread for complete info. For this list the map is Firetower Rd. from Evans to 14th St., up to Red Banks Rd., down Arlington Blvd, crossing down briefly onto County Home Rd., including Charles Blvd. in between. I've divided it into four categories based mostly on reputation and appearances (in no specific order within each category) from highest to lowest. Clearly I haven't lived in all these places, so other people's opinions and experiences may vary. Also, while many of these places are no different than other Greenville complexes, these rankings are in comparison to those in Bells Fork only. Please note that many of these are condos, townhomes, and duplexes that are privately owned, but are available to rent through the various advertising mediums. I've denoted these with an asterisk (*). I'm only covering complexes here, not subdivisions of homes.
Considered to be in highest regard:

Oakmont Square Apartments once had a poor reputation but is now a great place to live (I've been here 3 years and am picky when it comes to where I live).I currently live at Oakmont Square and LOVE IT! Not sure what was going on here a few years ago but today it is a great place to live! There is a good balance of families, couples and singles here as well as a wide variety of ethnicities and people from all walks of life.
The grounds are well maintained and the manager is a great guy who helps you out whenever you need something. If something breaks, they fix it. Every apartment is thoroughly cleaned and fixed up before each new tenant moves in and the manager does everything to make your move positive. They are pretty firm on paying rent on time and do background checks on anyone wanting to live here, which I think is a great thing.
Overall it is a quiet place where you can live for great rent. Something else that is great- the church located next door (who owns the complex) has been doing some pretty cool things in the complex: there is now a community garden for all of the residents to help grow and share what is there, there is a once a week afterschool program for elementary-high school students, there are women's groups and other things and there is group of Christian college students doing a special community that started in 2012. Oakmont Square is a great place to live!
Can anyone tell me what complexes have garages either attached or detached?
Garages must not be a big thing in Greenville, as not too many homes have them. At least not in my price range of around $1000 a month.
From that list, which is Bells Fork area only, Breezewood Condos has some large patio homes on their complex that have garages. There's a small complex (called The Gates I believe) inside the Treetops neighborhood that has garages. Kittrell Farms may have some garages, but I can't say for sure. Wimbledon Pointe has covered parking. Other than that, there are duplexes scattered across town that have garages. Most of the ones I've seen are in west Greenville near the hospital. You might find a house in Winterville if you raise your budget a little. And no, garages aren't prevalent in this rental town.
Thank you. That gives me something to look for. Wife works at ECU and I'm looking for a job in Greenville so we will be moving there at sometime in the near future but want a decent place to stay for the short term till we can find something that we really want to invest in.
While not in the Bells Fork Area the complex Brookfield at Lynndale (often just called Brookfield) is not too far away. If you are looking for a simple place to rent and/or if you're just getting started it will do your needs just fine. One bed/one bath $395, two bed/one bath $495.
The area is safe (I've lived here for two years and have never seen or heard about any crime) and you aren't to far away from things.
However there are two drawbacks worth mentioning.
1. If you're looking for access to the bus system you would have to walk a bit to get to the nearest stop. Its about a quarter mile walk and the stop is in front of a Lowe's Foods. This shopping center also has a Bed Bath and Beyond, Best Buy, a pizza joint, and a Chinese joint.
2. Traffic. Brookfield is on a section of Evans Street that is trapped between Fire Tower Road (which you can take to get to Bells Fork in less than 10min.) and Greenville Blvd (which is THE street for Greenville traffic). A few buses stop nearby as well so if you have to be in to work around 8am like most people it can get real ugly trying to get out in the morning AND coming home in the evening.
Does anyone know of any 3br apartments/townhomes in this area? I'm starting school on the health sciences campus and have 2 other roommates looking to rent with me.
