Tropical storm Chris is moving away but there is still a warning about rip currents on weather.com. My partner and I were planning to head down there this weekend. (Sat 7/14) Will rip currents still be a problem by then? Anyone surfing around Kure Beach?

The local buoys are showing 4' swell with a 5 second period and dropping, the off shore winds these last few days have knocked it down. By the time you get here things will be calm....no rips to worry about.

Enjoy the WARM water, and have a great trip.

Your name suggests you are a surfer? Have you been in the water? By the time I get there will probably be no waves.

Thanks for the response. I used to surf in California but in NC it doesn't seem worth the trouble. Sigh.

Don't give up, Wrightsville Beach faces East so it catches a bunch of swells and any westerly breezes would be off shore but it is still a beach break.

The Outer Banks has even better surf, Holden Beach isn't half bad, its the best of the southern isles. Don't bother with Oak Island (my home break) pretty weak and it's southern facing shoreline will pick up only a NNE swell from the occasional Hurricane that hugs the coast.

Thanks. What's your opinion of the Carolina/Kure Beach area?
