dogluvr, for cool furniture and stuff, you should check out the ivy cottage on market street. it's actually right next to indochine. I doubt people really hear too much about there being too many northerners here anymore. transplants outnumber northers about 5-1. I myself am from suburban washington, DC. as for the traffic, give it time. we just got into april. traffic doesn't start until after memorial day and doesn't stop until labor day. as far as hurricanes, we haven't had a major one here in several years. it depends on the storm. we are pretty prepared here. if you get evacuated, you can go right up 40, but it rarely happens. the hurricanes usually aren't too bad. depends on the category.

Well said dogluvr. I agree. I think your type of business would fit right in with the area.

Thanks for the past few positive replies. I think it really does depend on who you are in order to think of whether or not a store would do well. If you're 45 and love French Country (oh my god, some of the rentals I've looked at have the most hideous FC wallpaper!!), you might not know that there's a really good selection of stores for 20-somethings.

I do worry about the hurricanes though. I am taking a class on weather right now, and we just began hurricanes the other day. I really want to live right on the beach in, say, Wrightsville Beach, and I worry about storm surges and whatnot. I suppose, though, that lots of people do live in the area and do just fine.

Anyway it's great to hear from people from Manhattan who understand what kinds of things I'm into!

I know! It looks like they've got some cool stuff. I passed by there the other day....it's on my list of places to check out. Thanks.

Anywhere along the coast has a chance of getting hit. At least you have some time to prepare, unlike a tornado or earthquake.
