Can anyone reccommend places to camp in the Outer Banks? Preferably close to the water & fun!

What sort of camping?

For basic tent camping or pop-up campers without plugins, the National Park Service campground on Ocracoke is hard to beat. You just walk over the dunes and have a quiet beach.

Outer Banks Camping, Outer Banks Campgrounds

Buxton NC is my top pick Cape Woods Campground excellent amenities and near cape hatteras light house and short drive to ocracoke island and gorgeous sunsets over the sound by the canadian hole

Rodanthe is equally is good but you will have some killer sunsets from the campground over the sound. It within walking distance to the sound and ocean. And very close to Pea Island Rodanthe Watersports and Campground
Where ever you choose you want the wind in the summer to keep the mosquitoes down.

Cape Hatteras Island has restrictions on commerical development but there is some great mom n pop stores and restaurants.
There is a Food Lion in Avon, a nice Harris Teeter and a Ben Franklins in Nags Head. Keep this in mine and stock up on Non perishables. Most of the home rentals check in on Saturday and Sunday so these are bad days to grocery shop.

If your in Buxton in the morning you got to go try the Apple Uglies at the Orange Blossum Bakery.
