Hello....

Okay well, i'll try to make this as short as possible....I'm from Toronto (a very diverse city), and i will be moving to North Carolina, very soon...My Fiance is a Marine in the wilmington area.....Before NC he lived in San Diego, and i always felt comfortable there because it's a very racially diverse city....I'm not very familiar with North Carolina, and i was wondering if id be given any trouble in a small town, especially because i'm a visible minority (my background is pakistani)...I know it seems like a really silly question, but i'm just a little concerned, my fiance is caucasian, do you think we would get treated badly because i'm colored? Also, i'm concerned about when my parents will come to visit from toronto, my mom usually wears her traditional pakistani dress, im guessing that would draw a lot of attention ?.....

Ahh, if anyone could tell me a little bit about the wilmington area, that would be great!

Thank you

I grew up in Wilmington NC. It is a diverse town with the majority of residents relocating to the area. You will have no problems in Wilmington. Wilmington and the surrounding beaches are primarily a vacation destination. The main industry is real estate, vacation rentals, and the service industry. Downtown was a ghost-town when I grew up. Beginning with the real estate boom on the early 1990's, downtown has become a thriving community of restaurants, shops, and condos. The city of Wilmington has invested heavily in the revitalization of the downtown area starting with a waterfront walkway along the Cape Fear River.
