Swansboro is pretty, has waterfront property..close to the beach. Small town (old fishing village) area is growing fast and struggling a little bit with that. Last I heard new sewer capacity was an issue, don't know if that has been resolved. Closest hospitals are in Jacksonville NC (may 20 minutes?) and Morehead City(25-30 minutes) four laned to both cities. Suitable jobs in Swansboro might merit some research.

Yep not too many jobs in Swansboro but you might have luck in Jacksonville or Morehead. There are several medical offices and automotive businesses in Swansboro already. It's growing pretty quickly there but still has a small-town feel. The closest private schools that I know of are in Jacksonville or Kinston (about an hour north). Sewer capacity is still somewhat of an issue...

Both Swansboro and Carteret County schools have good reputations. I'm not sure where you would slot yourself into the auto business in the area, but it is a great small town area.

Here is my travel guide to Swansboro and some pictures I took during the winter.

We do have a lot of military folks in the area. If you could figure some special needs that they might in taking care of their autos, you could probably be successful.

Default Swansboro

Swansboro is a great place to raise a family, with great schools that the community supports greatly. Jobs can be hard to come by...but it sounds like your spouse should not have a problem with a job in the medical field. There is a brand new garage that opened in Cedar Point...which is right next to Swansboro. Other than that, there are a few car shops close by.
