Default Moving to Wilmington?

I am close to landing a job in Wilmington, and so now the search for a place to live begins. I see plenty of rental homes available online, but am wondering about good neighborhoods - safe, quiet, not run-down. Am more than willing to sacrifice being near the ocean/river for the right suburb/neighborhood (we have no kids, so schools not an issue). Any ideas? Thanks!

Anywhere in the 28405 and 28403 zip codes are really good....i personally work for a land developer that is only 30 minutes S of Wilmington and could definitely give you more information on that whole area if thats of interest to you.....mwhitlock@seawatch-nc.com

Did you visit the area at all? I am always curious when people post about getting a job, but haven't researched or looked at the area's housing/neighborhoods, and therefore are clueless of where to live. I must be getting old...... Downtown Wilmington has several old neighborhoods, around 3rd / 4th and Market Streets, a new high-rise apartment / condo building, and an up and coming (supposedly) area called Monkey Junction. None very cheap. Good luck.
