We would most likely continue to homeschool, but may consider public or private Christian school. We are looking for a wonderful family area to finish raising our girls in, and also a place where my husband can work for another 10 yrs.
Is there any info about Swansboro or neighboring areas that we should know? We are hoping to spend less than 300k on a 4 bdrm home preferably on more than an acre. Is that even possible? We'd love to be in a neighborhood but that is not set in stone.
I'd also like info on homeschool groups, churches and things for kids to do.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks so much

The Swansboro area is great place to raise a family. When you consider
Swansboro, you actually are looking at a whole area which is interconnected at many levels.
Besides Swansboro, the area includes Cedar Point, Cape Carteret, Emerald Isle, and Peletier.
As I have told many folks, this area is
the last refuge of great small towns.
Swansboro proper probably doesn't have any lots that are an acre. However, there are several areas both in Onslow County and western Carteret where I live that have that much or more property.
There is a home not far from me that has 3 bedrooms/2 baths and on over 4 acres. It's under $280K, so it is possible to find homes in the price range that you want. The neat thing is that an old fashioned ice cream truck still comes to that neighborhood.
There are also neighborhoods with pools, ponds, docks, and quiet streets where kids can safely ride their bikes. You just have to decide what you want. The closer you are to the beach the more expensive the home generally. Taxes appear to be a little more in Swansboro than in western Carteret.
We live on the east side of
the White Oak River not far from Cape Carteret. We moved down a couple of years ago from Roanoke, Virginia which is also a great spot to raise kids.
You can get an idea of the area and the services available by
checking this map. Just zoom into until you see the streets, and you will understand how close everything is.
The longer I stay in this area the more I love it. It is small enough that you run into people you know at the grocery store or walking on the beach.
We go to Cape Carteret Presbyterian and really find it to be warm and friendly church. There are plenty of churches in the area to choose from but I am not an expert on churches.
I don't think there is any shortage of things for kids to do in the area. At least that would be the case if they love the out of doors. Between the 158,000 acres of Croatan National Forest with its wonderful trails and the miles of great beaches, fishing and boating waters, this is a place people fall in love with easily.
Check out my ten reasons
why Carteret County is the spot for me and
Why I love Carteret County.
The climate is great, the people are friendly, and having a beach to walk on whenever you want is pretty hard to beat.
Today I went over to Swansboro about 5:45 am to catch the sunrise on the White Oak. Then I went home had breakfast and ran a few errands. By 9:30 am we were dropping the boat into the water and heading for Swansboro harbor and then Bogue Inlet.
We were anchored and fishing behind Hammocks beach before 10 am. While the fishing wasn't great, I did catch one Bluefish which I threw back. We were home before noon after a wonderfully smooth ride back up the White Oak.
We had lunch and I worked for a few hours then headed to the beach for a swim and a walk. The water temperature is in the mid-seventies so it pretty nice for this time of year.
It was a great day and one that would be hard to duplicate in many areas.
I would be glad to answer other questions about the area.
My new marketing slogan is the following.
"Quit your job, get a tan, fall in love, never look back.
Carteret County, a secret we're willing to share."
