Default ? for tourists who've been on southport ferry?

I have lived here in Southport for almost 15 years. I have always wondered this. If you are not from around here, and you ride the ferry from the Fort Fisher side (where the aquarium is) to Southport, how do you know which way to go to get to downtown from the ferry road? There are no signs on the end of that road, yet thousands of out-of-towners ride that ferry every year. Somehow, they all end up going where they need to, but why are there no signs saying "Southport this a way".

We took it from Southport to Fort Fisher first, then went back the way we came .

But I expect most folks just follow the crowd. My principle of being lost in an unfamiliar city has always been "if everyone else is turning, perhaps I should too."

Great observation...you think someone along the way would have put up a sign.

That's actually funny that you mention that. We were vacationing on Kure Beach and rode our bikes down to the ferry. We figured it would be obvious when we got off the boat or there would be signs or info telling us where to go. Everyone else was in cars and of course were loaded off first so they were all dispersed by the time we loaded the kids back on the bikes and got on our way! So we went back to the ferry and asked someone that worked there where to go and what direction to go. Luckily he pointed us out to a great little restaurant and a really cool little toy shop and then we pedaled back to the ferry. I have no idea if there was anything else there we should have seen!!

We are considering purchasing a weekend townhouse in Southport. What should we know about the area? How far to the ocean? Do you know of any new developements that would have condos or townhouses? I'd love your opinion!

We just followed the crowd. Then subsequent years when we visited, we knew which way to go...and I guess others followed us.
