We are from a small town, but within 30 minutes from Annapolis, Md, where shopping, movies etc.
Any info you can give us would be wonderful - thank you!!

First off there are plenty of activities in the Swansboro-Cedar Point-Cape Carteret-Emerald Isle area.
You pretty well need to treat them as one area since they are all adjacent to each other. Stella is much smaller and a little more isolated.
You can see that from
this map. Just zoom in until you see the streets and you can see most of the services.
The schools are good, there was
an article in today's Sunday paper about the writing scores.
Our subdivision has several young ladies in the age range of your daughters and they seem to stay pretty busy.
There are plenty of churches, we go to Cape Carteret Presbyterian but there is plenty choice in churches.
You should not have any trouble finding a home at $300K or under. $300K will buy you a very nice home in a water access community some of which have swimming pools, docks, boat ramps etc. There are a number to choose from in the area. If you drop the water access and use public water access there is a lot of choice from $200K up.
We live on the shores of the White Oak River not far from Cape Carteret. We are under ten minutes from the beaches of Emerald Isle.
There's lots of boating, great trails, beaches, and plenty of sports in the area.
People are very friendly and newcomers especially ones with children are welcomed. Our church actively recruits young children.
There are lots of community events in the area, plenty of history and museums in Beaufort (35 minutes away) and a great aquarium in Pine Knoll Shores.
Morehead City is turning into a very nice regional shopping area and it is under twenty minutes from Cape Carteret. There are movie theaters in Emerald Isle, Morehead City, Atlantic Beach, and Jacksonville.
Of course we have more than our share of miniature gold courses (and regular ones) and soon the largest arcade on the Crystal Coast will be opening at the Golfin Dolphin on Route 58 in Cape Carteret.
You can read my
Swansboro Travel guide,
why we came to Carteret County and several articles about Carteret County at this
link. This article talks about
the small town feel of the area.
We used to live in Columbia, MD and we have a number of folks from Maryland who have moved to the area.
Just let me know if I can answer any further questions. We absolutely love living in the area. We have been here two years and came from Roanoke, Va so we can still relate to people moving into the area.
