Has anyone ever been to Find Your Spot.com? They go on and on about Edenton, NC, it looks like the most beautiful place ever....but from what City-Data says, it seems really low-income and the average house price is SOOOO CHEAP! What's the scoop?
I'm not getting any responces about this city or city's around it. I'm starting to wonder. I also looked at the website and it looks great. I guess I'm just going to have to make the 12 hour trip and see for myself...

It _is_ a very, very beautiful city... I drove through it once, stopped and stood at the edge of the water looking out on to the sound, wishing I had a boat at that moment to take out onto the high seas! Very quaint little downtown.
I don't know northeastern NC very well, but I would think that the low housing prices would probably relate to the fact that there really isn't much in the way of business/industry out there -- a sadly true fact for lots of eastern NC. I mean, you're at least 90 minutes to either Greenville or Va. Beach for work! Elizabeth City NC is closer but really not much to do there. My guess is tourism/service sector is probably the biggest thing out that way.
Definitely worth a look if you decide to do the drive. I've done the drive down the Delmarva, over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge/Tunnel, then down US 13/17/etc. all the way to Charleston SC. Fun trip!
Yeah, Northeastern NC is full of a lot of old, small cities that haven't really found much of a niche in the modern economy.
In the economy of the "Old South" (agriculture, plantations, port towns, etc), these cities thrived. But today, many of them haven't found a way to thrive in the modern economy except a little fishing and some coastal tourism.
Recently, a few have been building up retirement communities...I'm not sure whether Edenton has jumped on this bandwagon yet or not.
We have been over-nighting in Edenton on our way south now for about 5 years. It is a town you can fall in love with for sure. We have seen the property prices climb steadily. The Cotton Mill condo project and restoration of the mill village are successes. A new city-from-scratch project called Sandy Point is finaly getting off the ground.
We still hear complaints that you have to go to Elizabeth City if you want anything special.
You can't have it all but you can get a lot of what is really important in NE NC. I lived their myself for a couple of years when I was in my mid 20's and really miss it still. It sort of gets in your blood and suddenly you are quite blind to the lack of jobs, etc.
