You can drive on Carolina Beach. Saw dogs there but do not know the official rules.

I am going to assume like the above poster you are referencing the coast and not a lake your best bet for your needs would be the outer banks.
I would stay in Rodanthe you will be really close to the Oregon Inlet and you can 4x4 ride and your dog will be happy. Rodanthe Watersports and Campground

You can drive on Carolina beach (one end) if you have a four-wheel drive and pay the fee. Dogs are allowed in that section. It's much closer than the Outer Banks.

It is the north end right past the pier. I believe dogs are suppose to be on leash during the peak summer months, but most I saw were running around.

Yes, we love Carolina Beach now, we rent a great 1BR with hardwoods at The Breakers which is at the dead end at Freeman Park where we drive on the beach.

It is Pet Friendly and has great views of both the Ocean and the Sound. DM me if you want her contact info it's a personal rental not a local company so she has great prices. It's $98 per night or $650 for the week during this peak time until Labor Day then it drops to $480 for the week. She didn't charge us a pet fee for our 2 Maltese either which was great, High Speed Internet and a pool too. Cleaning Fee is just $25 too.

Oh and they don't enforce the Leash Law at Freeman Park at all, as long as you have voice control of your dog they don't care, there are many here and it's great!!

Cindy
