Default Elizabeth City

I jusy got a job in Suffolk Virginia. I was told by some people I will work with to look for rental housing in this area. I looked at prior postings and people in general don't seem to have great things to say. We live in the country now it is very safe. I have read of high crime and to not raise a family there. Is there anything good anyone can say who is rasing a family there. When you don't know the area anywhere your biggest fear is ending up in a bad neighborhood. I have a teenager who now attends a high school with about 500 kids.

I'm asking about Elizabeth City as I haven't read too much positive so far.

Elizabeth City is not terrible by any means but some places there are pretty bad. Some of the inner city (which is very small by comparison to Norfolk or Raleigh) is pretty bad. Some crime and they are having some problems with gangs. You might want to consider South Mills if you are looking for a small town feel. There are not as many rental places as E.C. but it is quite a bit quieter. There are sections in E.C. that are nicer but the rental costs in those areas will be more expensive. If cost is not as much of a concern you might consider Great Bridge, VA. You might be able to find an apartment up there for between $7H and $9H. The area is a lot nicer than E.C. though and bigger than South Mills. There are more rentals right now than for the last couple of years but in Camden, Currituck and VA pickins is still slim. Hope this helps some.
