Smile riverbend or newbern NC?

MY HUSBAND AND I ARE MOVING DOWN TO NC IN A FEW MONTHS. HE WILL BE RETIRING AT 57, I'M 52. WE HAVE ONE SON AGE 19 WHO WILL BE STAYING IN NEW YORK FOR COLLEGE, BUT WILL EVENTUALLY JOIN US. WE ARE LOOKING FOR AN AREA THAT HE CAN HAVE A BOAT WITH EASY ACCESS . WHILE ON VACATION WE CAME UPON A TOWN OUTSIDE NEWBERN CALLED RIVERBEND. WE LOVED ALL THE TREE'S HOWEVER THE HOMES ON THE WATER WERE MOSTLY OUT OF OUR PRICE RANGE OR THE HOMES SEEMED TO BE RIGHT ON TOP OF EACH OTHER. WE NOTICED IT ALSO HAD A MARINA BUT WE DIDN'T NOTICE IF THERE WAS A BOAT RAMP FOR RIVER ACCESS. WHAT'S THE SCOOP ON THIS TOWN.? WE ARE LOOKING FOR A HOME BETWEEN 200- 300K.
WE HAVE DECIDED TO RENT WHEN WE FIRST GO DOWN, THIS WAY WE CAN REALLY INVESTIGATE DIFFERENT AREA'S. OUR OLDEST SON LIVES IN GREENVILLE, TEACHES IN WASHINGTON, SO WE WOULD LIKE TO STAY WITHIN A 2HR DRIVE FROM THERE.
WHAT WE LIKED ABOUT RIVERBEND WERE ALL THE TREES, BOATING, ECT. ANY OTHER AREA'S SIMILAR ANYONE COULD RECOMMEND IN OUR PRICE RANGE ? ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.. THANK

I lived in New Bern for 15 years, and there some advantages there....River Bend if I remember correctly had some sewage issues years ago...Anywhere from New Bern to Morehead City, or even here around Swansboro, waterfront homes are pricey....For your price range, you may want to look at a SUBDIV that has DEEDED Water Access, there are plenty of those, Cape Carteret has its own boat ramp that costs only $50 a year for town residents...There is also a nice one at the Wildlife park down from the VFW....Marinas I've seen charge by the foot, and that is from the extreme of both ends, there are plenty of dry stack storage facilities here that are right on the water....

Check out Brices Creek area, Trent Woods and Fairfeild Harbor. there is also a park in the middle of New Bern that has 2 large boat ramps and numerous parking areas for boaters. Its called Lawson Creek Park. There are many public boat ramps thru out the area from New Bern to Morehead City.

Nothing wrong at all with River Bend. It basically is New Bern. For example, River Bend is only like 2 miles from New Bern high school.

You can also check out Trent Woods, Brices Creek, and Fairfield.

I agree with others. There are plenty of ramps for putting in your boat.
Right now Fairfield Harbour has great prices on the water.
River Bend's mailing address is New Bern.
It is definitely a buyer's market and there are many that will sell their homes for less than asking price.
You will love the rivers. We were sitting along the Trent River today watching all of the beautiful boats.
Great place to be!

What's the best place for getting good views of towboats and barges in that area?

Non, there are no tugboats and barges this far up the river. Or rather, I have never seen any.

We see barges on the Neuse River all the time, but were in Oriental not New Bern. I think the person who is wondering about Riverbend should go to our local online e-magazine, Towndock.net gives a general idea about life here. Oriental fits your bill of proximity to Greenville and Washington and lots of trees and boats. I think it's cheaper then Riverbend and way more quaint then New Bern.

thanks for all the tips. We meant to check out fairfield harbour and trent woods last visit and we will when we get down there. Selling our home here has not been as easy as we imagined..we have been on the market for 30 days and have had over 50 viewings with only one offer ,fifty thousand less than our 389k asking price. Last year our home would have sold for 429k and although not one person stated it was priced to high there are just so many homes for sale in our area that we may need to lower the price if we still have no offers by September. I hope we will be able to find a bargain down there. I've always loved ocean views however, I found that the rivers, creeks, and bays in NC are just as beautiful. I also look foward to taxes less than 6k per year, electric of $250 a month, and oil of close to $ 1,000 every six weeks in the winter. also my 389k home in ny is like a 150k home in nc, so the move is going to be a big improvement in our lifestyle and I can't wait to get down there and start enjoying it.

thanks again for all your suggestions.

I was looking for some houses in New Bern, NC and came across an excellent subdivision guide...New Bern NC Real Estate and Subdivision Guide New Bern NC Real Estate and Subdivision Guide

It has information, videos, and pictures on both of those subdivisions you are looking for. I have spent hours on this site searching for a good subdivision and prices! My wife loves it and has made our move easy!
