I would love to hear views from people in the Washington, NC area on how they feel about the town.
Here are some of my questions
How bad was your worst flood experience there?
Are bears often seen in neighborhoods?
How long is the walking trail at River Rd?
What are some neighborhoods that are large enough for enjoying long walks and enjoying the view as you stroll along the sidewalks?
How is the movie theater?
Any big plans in the works for new shopping malls or anything like that?
Any areas to avoid?
How is the Verizon wireless reception? Any dead areas?
Is cable available, who is the provider?
Please share anything you like/ don't like about the area

I have never lived in little Washington, but when I did live in coastal NC, my family used to go there to shop, so I'd be happy to share what I do know. The movie theaters have a decent selection of films, though I'm sure prices have risen since the last time I was there. As far as I know, there are no new plans for a shopping mall, but there's a shopping center with a Wal-mart, Goody's, Office Max, and a few other large, basic stores. A second shopping center next to the theater contains Belks, a Winn Dixie, and a Bath and Body Works store.

The downtown area offers a lovely waterfront view, great for picnics and walks. There are also some cute stores, including a neat old used bookstore if you are a reader.

For cell phone reception, Verizon is the best provider in the area. Other local providers, such as Alltel and US Cellular, tend to give bad services. Use them and you will have many dropped calls. I am not a salesperson, so I say this as a customer. For cable, Dish network is a popular cable/satellite provider in the area.

I don't know a whole lot about bad neighborhoods in the area, but Magnolia Shores is a lovely subdivision if you are upper middle class. I liked visiting friends there because it was a well-kept little community that felt insulated from the bustle of the rest of the town.

Overall, I thought Washington was a rather charming little town. However, you may find that there is a limited amount of things to do for young adults, especially if you are not a church-goer. Fortunately, the town of Greenville is nearby, and they offer a few more options in terms of sociocultural opportunities, including more shopping malls and events at East Carolina University.

Feel free to PM me if you have any more questions!
