Hawaii, California ... and now NC!

Hi - We've lived in Hawaii for 14 yrs, California for 8 and are now looking to come back east to NC. I was born and raised in VA Beach, VA and have deep family roots in lovely NC.

We're going to be visiting Wilmington from SF Bay area next week and are very excited to explore the area!

I've heard some negative things from residents in and around Wilmington on this forum -- and as we all know, every place has its down side. What I'd like to learn is what makes Wilmington so special? What is AMAZING about this area? Why would someone live there over any other place?

For those who love living in/near Wilmington, NC, please tell us what you love about it!

Many thanks!

I would say the best part of Wilmington is the close proximity of the beach to a town that provides lots of city living needs.

the best part of wilmington is reading all the negative comments about it and knowing that maybe another person won't move here. The less the better!

I hear Virginia Beach is beautiful this time of year!

Cape Fear - I'll bet you get tired of having to reply to all of these posts of folks wanting to move to Wilmington -- it must be getting old by now!!

The friendly, coastal atmosphere! You have beautiful beaches and a charming downtown...that's why I love it!

actually, it would not surprise me if the population of wilmington was shrinking.

That's true.......the only reason more haven't left yet is because of the stagnant home market and they can't sell their home. They're just waiting for the market and economy to improve a little and they'll be out of here.

We absolutely love it here. I would have to agree with an earlier post that the best thing about Wilmington is that you have easy access to the beach yet you can still enjoy city living. Wilmington pretty much has everything that one may want or need.

Coming from the DC area, I was accustomed to going to the theater for plays and concerts on a regular basis. So now, we take trips to Myrtle Beach, Raleigh or Charlotte when we need to get our fix. On a much smaller scale, Wilmington can also satisfy our 'fix.'

PS. The people here are really down to earth and we have made many friends in the area.

Thank you BeachLiving! Great to hear what people love most about living in Wilmington... easy access to the beach and friendly "down to earth" people are top on our list also. Add that to a nice climate and close proximity to larger cities for city "fix" once in a while, it sounds like a great place to call home.

Can you expand on why, in your opinion, the population in Wilmington would be shrinking? Thanks
