Does anyone know if there are any hog farms in or around(15 miles)of Newport NC?
There are a couple of farms in the phone book, and looking at the aerial views, they might be hog farms. I can't tell for sure. One also appears to be a poultry farm.
However, there are far fewer in Newport than there are northwest of Jacksonville, since Newport is surrounded by the Croatan National Forest.

Nope, they're hog farms. Hog farms are easily recognized by their lagoons as is seen inside of the black square. This hog farm is about 1/4 mile outside of the Newport town limits.

If the OP is concerned about smelling the hog farms, you don't need a 15 mile radius. Once you get beyond a couple of miles away it's difficult to know there's a hog farm nearby. We're located about 3 miles from the nearest hog farm and in 3 years, I've only faintly smelled "country air" once. We have a poultry farm about 1/2 mile away and never smell it.
yes RM,the smell was issue with the hog farms. We want to build our dream retirement home outside of Newport town limits,in Hardesty Farm/Turnpike Road area.

You should be okay on the western side of Newport. The winds usually blow in a easterly direction anyway.
