The Raleigh News and Observer had an article recently, Report: N.C. beaches among the cleanest (http://www.newsobserver.com/news/story/1158101.html - broken link).
While it talks about how clean our beaches are, it also lists beaches which have had problems.
There is another site which lists beaches which are open. That is not a big problem in NC, but it does have an interesting map of NC beaches.
The site also has beaches from other states.
This is the link to their map of NC beaches (http://www.earth911.org/waterquality/default.asp?cluster=8 - broken link).

Reason: wrong word
I always felt cleaner swimming in our oceans .
The beaches in that state right below us I always felt like I am hopping out of a soda can . I always feel sticky and ucky and not sure what I am stepping in. Especially those odd suds that sometimes sit on the water.
