I've been reading all of the threads trying to find a good place for our family to place roots. What wonderful information this provides. I've been following the Wilmington crime thread and I am wondering if any other towns are having a problem with alot of crime. In particular the Outer Banks, but I'd like to know about any coastal area regarding this issue. Thank you for your local knowledge!

I honestly don't think that there are enough people in the outer banks year round for there to be much crime. wilmington has its share of crime, as do coastal cities like elizabeth city, and new bern. not sure what crime is like in places like morehead city and beaufort. there are some real estate agents on here that can fill you in on crime in that area.

Thanks for the insight on those areas as we have also been looking at New Bern & Elizabeth City. Would you say they have a normal crime rate or should we steer clear from certain areas?

I would say it's like any other place. here in wilmington, crime is spotty. the longer you tend to be in an area, and get to know it, you know what areas to avoid. I am sure those two towns aren't too much different.

Most of the crime areas of New Bern are in the slum and trailer areas. easy to avoid.

You may want to checkout Cape Carteret, great schools, low crime...
