Just got back -- the day went well.. The lady at the staffing agency was super helpful and tried to get me some interview on very short notice ( I told her at 2pm yesterday that I would be down there today) I had short notice too.. I tried to line up to look at some rentals from the Coastland Times newspaper (you can't find it online and it comes out 3x/week) but no one was available or what I was interested in was already rented. I am keeping my hopes up and think the interviews went well.. Now I am in the waiting stages.. but still applying for other jobs in the interim. Thanks for your support medicwife.

No problem nlblueyes, you are taken the steps we are so anxiously waiting to do. I'm glad you were able to get some interviews! My husband finishes school in the beginning of October. And then we are heading down for the interview/testing process.
How did the rentals compare in price in the Coastland Times compare to those online?

Coastland Times rental rates are about the same.. there a lot of rentals in the Colington area. It might benefit you to subscribe to it as it isn't online. OBX is a 4.5 hour drive from my parents.. It was a long day yesterday to drive down and back in one day but my mom rode with me to keep me company and my dad watched my dog. The staffing agency just called me about an opportunity that has come up (however I am at work and was unable to speak with her so I will call her in the morning)... Looking forward to what opportunities she may have for me.

Ooooooo, can't wait to hear about the job!!! I'm just as excited for you as for us. You don't mind if I live vicariously through you until it is our turn, do you?!!! :-)
I spoke to my Dad tonight about the subscribing to the paper (Mom & Dad are moving after us) and we are going to order it. Thanks!

I hope the newspaper subscription will help you.. I am excited but now torn as I have a job interview for a job I applied for with the State back in May in a town I used to live in for 5 yrs in NC... going on that interview on Monday.. and my resume has been forwarded by the staffing agency in the OBX for another job.. It has been a bit stressful trying to fit in interviews when my current job is NOT flexible about time off, hence why I drove to/back the OBX in 1 day and now I will be flying down for my Monday interview and gonna have to be late to work....what have I gotten myself into?

Oh no! As if change isn't stressful enough! Try to stay grounded, weigh your pros & cons and I'm sure the right thing will come along. Good luck and breath deeply!

Living at the Outer Banks
Here is my situation,
I am 40 years old and I'm awaiting a decision to find out if I will get disability due to heart problems that might even require me to be put on a transplant list. I am also raising a six year old son on my own. We currently live in Raleigh and I love it here, but have lived here all of my life and I'm ready for a change of scenery plus with a limited income, I just can't afford it here anymore.
Would it be wise to move to the outer banks, Kitty Hawk/Nags Head/Kill Devil Hills area mostly? Is there much that a child can do there aside from the beaches and the other tourist spots?

I wish you luck but you might want to look at the home prices along the coast and you will see that you will actually be paying more than you are currently in Raleigh.
Plus the coastal insurance is extremely costly to what you are probably use to now.
At that age of your son it would be a dream come true least in the warm weather months but even in the cold weather months there fishing abound.
I would look actually to what you can afford and they may be on some of the Sounds cities like Elizabeth City or Oriental.
