Jobs and Outdoor Stuff
My husband and I are thinking of transferring from AZ for a change to Havelock. I want to work in the tourism field in hotels or a convention and visitors bureau. Are there a lot of jobs along the coast like this? Do you think it would be reasonable to commute from Havelock for this? Where are the most jobs in this type of field?
Also, how many months out of the year can you go into the ocean without it being cold? I've never been in the Atlantic so I don't know what type of water temps it has.
Lastly, I'm a big outdoors person- like to hike, rollerblade, kayak, camp. What areas of NC have stuff like that?

Carol Lohr is the Executive Director of the Crystal Coast Tourism & Development (TDB) Bureau. She has also served in the same capacity for the state of North Carolina. The TDB is 15 minutes away from Havelock.
I would highly encourage you to contact Carol at 1-877-206-0929

Water temps are quite warm here, often in the 80's. Much warmer than California!

The water is comfortable from mid June till late september. I would stay away from Havelock and move to either New Bern, Newport, Morehead City, or Beaufort.
Kayaking is plentiful around here with many public boat ramps. Not too many places to hike or rollerblade around here.
New Bern, Morehead City and Atlantic beach would be the best areas for tourism. hope this helps you.

What is so bad about Havelock? My husband was in school there for the Marine Corp and he said it is really small but that's about it. What is the most populated city out of those that you named?
