Does anyone around here have a daughter who has taken or does take dance at either of these 2 places OR do you know from friends, if either one of these places is the better one to go with for a 4 year old just starting out in dance lessons, who says she wants to eventually be able to take classical ballet? I figure if she likes it and sticks with it, at 8 when she's ready for the more studious training, I can check into Wilmington.

But for now.....anyone know about Dance Connection in Shallotte, or Brunswick School of Dance in Supply? My husband says all he knows is the Supply one used to be the only one around and has been around the longest and the dancers do the parades, and that Dance Connection is known to be enjoyed and fun, but doesn't seem to be as serious for serious dancers. ?? But he doesn't really know.

I need to choose one, and need advice, and honestly, I have not heard anything bad about either place, just wondering if one might be better for the classical ballet direction in a few years or might give a better start. I want my daughter to have fun but if we're going to pay for it and she wants to be serious and stick with it, I want to also choose a place that can teach her so well that she will have the option to pursue dance more in college and in the arts community down the road. I hear the place in Wilmington has had people accepted into the School of American Ballet in NY-- that's awesome!

Anyone know? (FWIW if my daughter decides dance isn't her thing, that's fine by me...I'm not pushy, just want her to have the best opportunities whatever she chooses herself and dance is what she wants. I'd have the same questions if she wanted to start music lessons, martial arts, art lesson, or whatever...)

There used to be a decent dance place on Oak Island. Been a while since I lived there, but my daughters really liked it.

One of our fondest memories was our daughter talking to a little girl at a fish tank in a seafood restaurant in Southport, telling her "I'm a ballerina."

That was the result of her experience at the OI place. No idea the name, but it was within the first 1/2 mile after getting off the road crossing the bridge.

Don't worry about later years, the ballerina fad passes fast, unless parent push it!!!

The owner of Brunswick School of Dance is the cousin of a good friend of mine. My friend has gone there ( as an adult ) and also took her daughter there. She loves it.
