We will be relocating to New Bern in the next few weeks and are trying to figure out the best options as far as schools are concerned. We have 2 children in elementary school and one in the 6th grade. They are all currently in Wake County Public schools, however I want to know the real truth about the middle schhols in the area. We really like the Trent Woods area and have located multiple houses that we are interested in. The question is how are the public middle schools? Do the kids in Trent woods mostly attend private or public? If the answer is Private, which ones are best.
Thanks for any honesty and guidance.

Trent Woods would be Bangert Elementary. Our son went there for 2 years. It's a good school....although our daughter is in Brinson, over at James City. Stellar reputation. I would imagine your 6th grader would go to H.J. McDonald Middle School. They have a fairly decent reputation, our son just finished there last year. They have the common problems as many other schools, wannabe gang members, etc. But if a student is disciplined, there's no problem.

We decided not to have our son in the high schools here. They have great sports programs and such, but are having quite a problem with gangs. I know, my wife works in the juvenile court system. He just started at Epiphany this year, we are expecting great things. I believe we'll follow the same with our 2 younger children. Public until high school, then find something else. There are other options if you can swing the cost!

High school is what the student makes of it, of course. The kids that excel in the high schools here, other than "just get by", seem to be exceptional students in my opinion.

Default RE: Up the creek reply

Thanks for the info. Any words about Ben D Quin Elementary. One of the houses we found in Trent is Ben D Quinn?

Another house we really liked was off possum trot road in Brices Vreek Area. Thoughts?

This is a little late post, but my son went to Bangert. Now in HJ Middle. We loved Bangert. At the time, they were having problems at Ben Quinn. They may have worked those out now.

Hope you found something wonderful for your family in Trent Woods. I grew up in Trent Woods and it is great.

Good luck!
