The Mimi team gives a 'No. 1' sign in honor of the giant Blue Marlin taken from the boat. (PCBGT)

Trey Irvine of Westin, Fla., landed a pending North Carolina State Record Blue Marlin weighing an incredible 1,228.50 pounds to take home nearly $500,000 from the 25th Annual Pirate's Cove Billfish Tournament, held Aug. 11-15.

When certified, this catch will eclipse the 1,142-pounder caught by Jack Herrington in 1974.

gvmesun is on a distinguished road
I saw the pictures of it about a week ago. Amazing! Congrats to the crew of the Mimi, but I wish the fish had gotten away.
