I'm moving to Raleigh with my wife in May (we're mid-20s), and I noticed Wilmington is only 2 hours away. We're from NY/MA, so except for the occasional childhood trip, most of the South is completely unknown to us.

I've heard nice things about Wilmington, but except that there is a beach, I don't know much about it. What's the draw, what's there to do, what do YOU like about it?

Thanks!

honestly, I can't think of a reason that someone from raleigh would want to come here other than the nice beaches. they have a nice historic district downtown, and some people come here to see where they make all those movies. the beach is by far the biggest draw, and the beaches down here are great.

The beach is the main attraction here. I am from Raleigh actually and head that way about once a month. It somehow keeps me same. Visiting here is one thing, trying to live here is a totally different( and humbling) experience.

raleigh seems to be a well managed city with proper city planning. wilmington, uh, not so much.
