duney is on a distinguished road
Hi..we just moved to Carolina Shores a month ago and we are recently retired as well. Calabash is a tiny fishing village just around the corner with a very pretty riverfront and plenty of seafood restaurants. It is a very quiet area, but there is plenty to the south (Little river, North Myrtle Beach, Myrtle Beach) and to the north.(Shallotte and Wilmington), for shopping or activities. Everyone here has been very welcoming and helpful There are great beaches very near..Sunset beach and Ocean Isle Beach as well as Cherry Grove Beach in SC. Don't seem to be very many families..average age is about 60...and tons of golf courses!
Home prices are great compared to New England, from where we came!
If you like a nice climate, quiet and beautiful beaches..this is a great place.

seashellbelle will become famous soon enoughseashellbelle will become famous soon enough
I too discovered this wonderful area of the southern coast, when friends invited me to Holden Beach. I arrived in the dead of winter, didn't need my coat, and in fact relocated here 4 years ago. If you are seeking a slower pace, yet need access to great towns, you are mid-way between Myrtle beach and Wilmington. Our cost of living is lower, we are minutes away from pristine beaches, and our housing market has remained resilient and steadily increasing in value. Some folks think that our housing will be cheaper, and you can get an acre for under $100,000. that unfortunately isn't the case. Average home prices are in the mid $200's. So any information we or I can give you, please feel free to let us know exactly what information you need. It is a Buyers Market, but here it is slightly different, because we are not seeing the foreclosures that other states are experiencing, and builders have been very careful to not overbuild. Those that did, are offering wonderful incentives, or, are out of business due to lack of funding. North Carolina has been ranked as a #1 state by the lending industry, and Brunswick County actually saw an increase in sales this August over last year.
