hey my husband got orders to fort macon also. I have been searching alot not much information. White oak school had the best rating. you can check it out at greatschools.com. We are moving in June also. We are going to go up there soon I'll let you know more.

I am getting married to a USCG member in June 2009 and he just got orders today to Fort Macon.... which is in Atlantic Beach, NC!!! We are soo excited for our new start together. He currently lives in Cape May, NJ and I am in Chesapeake, VA. Soooo... I was wondering if anyone knows of great areas. My priorities are SCHOOLS first, HOUSING COST second and DRIVE TO FT. MACON third. Any advice would really help. I will also be needing a job, ideas on employers in the area, I currently am a Office Manager at an architectural firm. Thanks soo much!!!![/quote]

I'm jealous!! My wife and I loved Atlantic Beach and Morehead City when we went there this past Summer!

I would love to live there.

Smile fellow coast guard wife

Hey there...
We transferred here last summer (June 08) from Michigan. I would definately rent first, so you get a good idea of the area. We ended up renting in a great neighborhood in Cedar Point. Our daughter goes to White Oak and loves it! It doesn't look all that impressive from the outside, but the teachers are wonderful! The drive is 35-40 min for my husband, but he says it's well worth it to have us in a nice, extremely safe, gated community. I am guessing you already moved down....most transfers are June 1st, but if not and you have any questions, just ask.

Welcome. I think you'll love it here. We are hoping to stay here at least a few more years.
