I am transferring to Camp Lejeune, NC from Hawaii (sucks to be me, I know). My wife is a career student, and she is looking at entering University of North Carolina at Wilmington to continue her studies. We are looking at an area that is going to be a fair, or equal commute for the both of us on a daily basis. We are considering Sneads Ferry, Holly Ridge, and some other places that I cannot think about off the top of my head. What are your suggestions concerning our situation?
Sneads Ferry and Holly Ridge are going to be a little longer commute for your wife - you might want to look at Hampstead - there won't be any stat s about it on city-data because we are an unincorporated community - I think you might find some under Topsail Township or search the forums for it. Hampstead would be about a 35 minute commute for her and also for you. Surf City on the mainland side might also be a nice choice. Is your wife working on a specific degree? There are also some nice community colleges - both in Wilmington and Jacksonville - that she could attend if she is not too far along in her program....
They are building some new housing areas that look very attractive and affordable. My mom lives in Surf City which is on Topsail Island just offshore from Holly Ridge (her zipcode is actually Holly Ridge). It's a reasonable commute both to Wilmington and Camp Lejeune and just a hop from the Topsail beaches. People complain about the Wilmington traffic, but living in DC, I just laugh at them.
Is a commute from Richlands to Wilmington on a daily basis unrealistic?
I know people who do worse commutes. I would not want to do the commute daily. Google maps gives me 66 miles and 1 hour 10 minutes from the center to Richlands to downtown Wilmington. Even if you were commuting to (say) Ogden, it is still 54 miles and over an hour.
