Simply because Leland is acting like an 800# gorilla in a china shop. If the folks buying in Brunswick Forest had any sense, they'd compare their tax rate and amenities to that of the little town of Belville. Belville has 600 houses compared to the Forests 800 plus and counting. The Forest pays Leland over $1.3 MILLION a year in taxes. Belville is not only surviving, but thriving, on a tax base of less than $700K. Leland has over $9Million in debt. Belville ZERO. Lelands crime rate is four times that of Belvilles. Leland constructed a fire station on SR133 that has remained VACANT for four years BECAUSE LELAND DOESN'T HAVE THE MONEY TO MAN IT. Belville has banked over $300K in the same period and has over $1.5million IN THE BANK! Leland is facing a $65K shortfall in this years budget (hence their efforts to "absorb" H2Go). Belville is looking at surplus of over $300k in grants DUE TO ITS CREATING A REGIONAL ATTRACTION IN THE RIVERWALK. Lelands Christmas event drew less than 100 people, Belville WITH ONE TENTH THE POPULATION DREW OVER 1,500. FACTS NOT RHETORIC!!!!

Kinda sounds like Leland is to Wilmington as Cary was to Raleigh. A boom town where property values skyrocketed and growth was phenomenal.
