My husband and I are thinking about spending the summer in Wilmington (May - July). I am wondering where to find affordable rentals that do short term leases or month by month. I have looked on Craigslist, but maybe it's too early to find summer rentals, because I really don't see much for that time frame but I want to get some research started.

I looked on a vacation rental website but things seem to be about $1200 a month and up and that's a bit too much. We would like to keep it at $750 at the MOST. Am I asking too much? I am sure many people spend their summers in Wilmington without paying $5000 a month, so I assume there has to be cheaper rentals out there. Perhaps an Extended Stay would work? We are thinking of just storing our furniture so we don't have to bring anything. I don't know, ideas?? (Does not have to be on the beach, but in a nice part of town, close to downtown is ideal, I don't like Carolina Beach so not on that end..)

$750/month is the sort of rate you would get for a 2BR apartment on the mainland for a year-long lease - in fact I used to pay that for a 2BR. Beach rates are higher than that, I think $1000 for a year-round 2br on Wrightsville Beach would be cheap.

Other than guessing it would be "more", I don't know. Craigslist has a better answer than anyone here can provide. I would also check with the big realty agencies: Century 21 Sweyer, Intracoastal, Re/Max Coastal, exit realty, coldwell banker seacoast.. etc.
