I just got married to a Marine in November. We just found out about a week ago that our PDS is New River. I've been searching like crazy for an apartment(the On base housing wait is 12-14 months) and I'm not having much luck. The main reason is this: I have a beautiful, but large, mixed breed dog. We're 99% sure that she is a Husky-German Shepherd mix. The problem? German Shepherds and Husky's, for some reason unknown to me, are on the aggressive dog breeds list. We found one apartment that Husky's are not, but German Shepherds are. There is a slight possibility that she is Australian Shepherd instead of German but we can't afford the DNA test with the move a month away. I was wondering if anybody knew of any(affordable but tasteful) apartments close to base in Jacksonville that my dog would be ok. This is a dog I am NOT willing to give up. She had a real bad scare right before Christmas, which we now owe my Grandmother 3,000 dollars for a surgery to remove 120 metal belt studs from her stomach. So needless to say, this dog is priceless to me. so, please, if anyone can help, that would be greatly appreciated!!

My thought is that a small house would work much better then an apt. Try this, google Jacksonville NC newspapers. Then go to the classified section and see what there is. When asked, don't say shepherd or husky just say "we don't know, she's a "mutt" also look on craigslist if you haven't already. Good luck.
