Is Wilmington, North Carolina as quiet and peaceful as the show would suggest?

I can think of a lot of words to describe Wilmington, but quiet and peaceful would not be in the list. Busy, crowded, noisey, lively, fast paced, etc. would be more like it. Now the areas around Wilmington might be more like Dawson's Creek. I would think of Southport as a more quiet place.

Hampstead is pretty quiet also...I think any of the Wilmington areas around the creeks, marshes and sounds are pretty peaceful! I think I like the serenity of the marshes as well as the beach! Wasn't a lot of Dawson's filmed down around Southport? I remember taking the teen aged daughter of a friend to be an extra - that day they were filming right on Market Street down near the river. They made it look VERY peaceful!

I have been told that Dawsons Creek was written by and named after a man who lived up here near Oriental. Might be true as we have an area that is named Dawsons Creek and has been called that for many years before the show came out.

Oriental is cool, too! Just not a lot of jobs. That is probably why it is cool.

I remember going to a restaurant IN southport where they had all the pics of the dawsons creek cast and autographs and what not all over the wall. I can't remember the name of the restaurant, but if you drive along the roads next to the water in southport you can TELL that's where they filmed it. It IS really nice and peaceful. My family use to vacation in Oak Island all the time and we'd drive into Southport for shopping and eating. Oak Island is nice and peaceful also

They filmed Dawson's Creek mostly in Wilmington/downtown areas but several scenes were shot in Southport.. if you watched every episode with me I could tell you which scenes were filmed where for the most part, haha. I am beyond obsessed with that show and know more about it than most people so if you have questions about it give me a ring! I think it depends where you come from.. personally I think Wilmington is quiet, peaceful and quaint, but I am from New York, so it is all about your perspective. I personally don't think it's a "city-ish" type of place.. it is more quaint than that. I believe Kevin Williamson who created the show lived in the Cape Cod area and a lot of the show is about his growing up there. VISIT, and you'll find out!!

I cannot say how cool that is to the last two posts. If I get into UNC Wilmington (as a film major...no it's not completely a coincidence that i like movies too haha ) I'm totally like coming down there. From New York like Jen!!! I hope you weren't treated so poorly as she was by the locals!
