Things are beginning to get tight at home, and I'm considering trying to get a job. Problem is that I have two kids in school, and my husband makes a (used to be) decent wage. How can I find out how much I can make before it messes up my husband's taxes and ends up costing us money? Is there a calculator out there that I can put in his info, or is there a threshold for spousal income? Thanks.

Here is a "second income" calculator from MSN Money:

My thoughts: You say you have 2 kids in school. How old are they? If they are at least 9 years old, then you can probably work and contribute to your home. What you contribute could be greater than the cost. Get the kids involved in after school activities or have them go to the library or to a friend's house so that if you can find a job that starts early in the morning and that gets out by 4pm, you can be home when they get home. I'm sure you can work something out. In these economic times, there is no good reason to be a stay at home wife waiting for the other shoe to drop.
